NC First Alert Forecast | Severe storms with straight-line winds possible, isolated tornadoes in central North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — Severe storms could move through central North Carolina Sunday afternoon and evening.

The primary concern is damaging winds, but a single tornado is possible. Rainfall totals will be 0.50 to 1.5 inches in most areas. High temperatures will be in the mid 60s to low 70s.

Timeline

According to ABC11 meteorologists, it will likely happen between 1 and 8 p.m

Dry conditions will return behind the front Sunday night into Monday morning.

Due to the threat of severe weather, the North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival in Cary will be closed Sunday and will reopen Monday.

It can rain on New Year’s Eve

While some sunshine returns on Monday with highs in the 60s, there is a chance of light showers New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day.

Temperature highs on Tuesday will be in the low 60s to low 70s, with lows in the mid 40s.
