The LAFD said emergency services managed to contain the fire to the building where it broke out and prevent it from spreading to surrounding buildings.

An LAFD spokesman said the building was divided into two stores by a wall. The fire burned in both sections.

Hope Street remains closed at Pico Street in both directions while authorities investigate the incident. Motorists are asked to use alternative routes.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown.
