Neil Cavuto is leaving Fox News after 28 years

Neil Cavuto is leaving his longtime home at Fox after nearly three decades.

Fox News, in a statement to USA TODAY on Thursday, recognized the work of Cavuto, who has been with the cable network since its founding in 1996.

“Neil Cavuto’s illustrious career has been a masterclass in journalism and we are extremely proud of his incredible 28 years at FOX News Media. His programs have defined business news and set standards for the entire industry. We wish him from the bottom of our hearts.” Farewell and all the best for his next chapter.

Cavuto’s contract expires at the end of 2024, according to a source familiar with the situation who was not authorized to speak publicly to USA TODAY. The source pointed to an “evolving” news business that has led to industry-wide pay cuts. The presenter, who usually covers business topics, was offered the opportunity to stay but declined.

The source said Thursday that Fox will announce a new programming slate in 2025 and Cavuto’s shows will be hosted by a rotating list of guest hosts through next year.

Cavuto currently hosts “Your World” weekdays at 4:00 p.m. ET on Fox News Channel and “Cavuto Coast to Coast” weekdays at 12:00 p.m. ET on Fox Business Network. On Saturdays, he hosts “Cavuto Live” at 10 a.m. ET.

Before joining Fox News in August 1996, Cavuto worked as anchor and host of the network’s top-rated show, “Market Wrap,” according to Fox. He hosted over three hours of live programming on NBC’s business channel.

Cavuto’s exit marks a number of notable changes in the television landscape this year. In late September, Hoda Kotb announced she was leaving “Today,” describing the decision as the “hardest thing in the world.” She said her 60th birthday this summer was a “monumental” moment that got her thinking about the decade ahead.
