A new 3D Mario Nintendo Switch 2 game leak isn’t quite what Nintendo fans were expecting. It’s been seven years since the release of Super Mario Odyssey. That means it’s been seven years since the last major 3D Mario game. This is a long wait for Nintendo fans, but based on previous rumors, many Nintendo fans expected this wait to be over soon. Many previous Nintendo rumors not only stated that a new 3D Mario game was in development, but that it would be released alongside the Nintendo Switch 2. However, the latest report about the game – and the Nintendo Switch 2 – claims otherwise.

According to this report, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on March 3, 2025 at a price of $300. However, the same report mentions that a new 3D Mario game will not be among the Nintendo Switch 2 launch games that will be available alongside the console on March 3rd. Rather, the line-up is led by Mario Kart 9 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Still, there’s still something to look forward to for Nintendo fans looking forward to a new 3D Mario game. The same report mentions that alongside the Nintendo Switch 2, which will reportedly be revealed on January 17th, a new 3D Mario game will also be revealed. In other words, a new 3D Mario game will be revealed in exactly one week.

What the report doesn’t mention is when the game will be released. Again, many Nintendo fans expected this to be the big Nintendo Switch 2 launch game – the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – but if this new report is accurate, it will be Mario Kart 9 be.

While this was the expectation based on rumors, it makes sense based on Nintendo’s strategy in the past. Notably, Super Mario Odyssey was not a Nintendo Switch launch game, but was released in October of the same year. Nintendo may want to repeat this strategy with its sequel.
