New coach Teddy Bridgewater leads Miami Northwestern to the title

It didn’t take long for Teddy Bridgewater to find success in his first job since retiring from the NFL.

Bridgewater led his alma mater, Miami Northwestern Senior High School, to the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 3A state title Saturday night, a feat he achieved just 10 months after being hired.

The Bulls defeated the previously undefeated Raines in Miami 41-0 and won their eighth state championship.

Bridgewater, 32, was hired in February and tasked with turning around a program that had gone 4-6 the previous season. He did that and more.

Miami Northwestern went 12-2 this season and outscored opponents 262-12 in five playoff games. The season ended with a 10-game winning streak.

Bridgewater had 6,712 passing yards and 70 touchdowns as a star quarterback at Miami Northwestern before transferring to Louisville, where he earned Big East Rookie of the Year honors and won the Sugar Bowl MVP after leading the Cardinals as a junior at Florida had passed by.

He was a first-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2014 and played for seven NFL teams, most recently the Detroit Lions, before retiring after the 2023 season.
