New goal for Russ? The surprise cut could be the Steelers’ wide receiver solution

New goal for Russ? The surprise cut could be the Steelers’ wide receiver solution

The Pittsburgh Steelers could have another chance to acquire a wide receiver off the open market. The team has tried to improve its wide receiver room even after the Mike Williams transfer. They signed veteran Jamal Agnew to have more cap space in case one of the players gets injured. Agnew could be a big piece of the puzzle this week with Calvin Austin III in the concussion protocol.

The Denver Broncos have cut Josh Reynolds after he spent the last eight weeks on injured reserve. Since then, Denver has seen the emergence of other players, and they would rather use those young players than bring Reynolds back. His time was cut short, although Reynolds signed a two-year contract with the team.

He suffered a finger injury that placed him on the injured list, and just 12 days later he was shot in the head. Reynolds has since recovered and appears ready to return to the field, which is why the Broncos waived him.

When Reynolds left college, the Steelers were among the teams that invited him for a pre-draft visit. A powerful blocker, Reynolds fits Arthur Smith’s offense like a glove and can provide the team with a big target in the middle of the field.

Reynolds had 12 catches before his injury, so it’s not as if his production was waning, and after an excellent year in Detroit in 2023, he’s proven he’s a capable player. If the Steelers want to round out their wide receiver corps, someone like Reynolds makes perfect sense.
