New York Jets vs. Seattle Seahawks game inactive

It’s going to be a lively day in the Meadowlands this afternoon as a semi-hot team, the Seattle Seahawks, visit MetLife Stadium to play the Jets, who will be looking to give it another go in the final six weeks of the season.

The Seahawks have the better record at 6-5 and have a two-game winning streak against teams the Jets lost to, the 49ers and, last week, the Cardinals. The Jets are 3-8 and have lost seven of their last eight games. They are 1-5 in this stretch, where a game was decided by one score.

In the Green and White’s favor: They’re coming off their bye week against a Seattle team that last played and won in Atlanta on the East Coast in Week 7, but hasn’t left the Pacific time zone for the past month. Will their biological clocks function well in a game that starts for them at 10 a.m. PST and in slightly stormier conditions than Seattle, with game temperatures in the 40s and winds of 15 mph?

The Hawks have a number of former Jets on their roster, led by QB Geno Smith, their second-round pick in the 2013 draft. Smith has revived his career as Seattle’s starter over the past three seasons after stints with the Giants and Chargers had made a stop. He leads all NFL quarterbacks in most completions/game (25.5) and yards/game (275.9).

Still, Smith’s 12 TD passes rank in the bottom half of quarterbacks in the league and his 12 interceptions are the most thrown by a QB this season.

Interestingly, Jets QB Aaron Rodgers, who turns 41 on Monday, and Smith have many similar metrics. Rodgers’ offense resulted in fewer touchdowns than Smith’s (23 to 25), but also fewer turnovers (11 to 14). Both offenses punted 47 times. That could indicate an even fight, and if the Jets’ dam breaks against the Seahawks, that would be all the better for the home team.

Rodgers’ teams are 1-0 over Smith’s teams in his 20-year NFL career, including the Jets’ 31-24 road loss to the Packers in 2014.
