New York Rangers vs. Carolina Hurricanes open thread

After a quick pit stop at Madison Square Garden following their four-game Western Road Swing, the Rangers are back on the road for a playoff rematch. The Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina marks the first meeting between the New York Rangers and the Carolina Hurricanes since last season’s Metropolitan Division.

The last time the Blueshirts were in this building it was known as PNC Arena and it was the site of one of the most memorable moments in Rangers playoff history. Chris Kreider’s natural hat trick in Game 6 averted the potential disaster of Game 7 after the Rangers took a 3-0 lead and punched New York’s ticket to its second Eastern Conference Finals appearance in three seasons. Things have been going downhill for the Rangers since then, and a three-game losing streak puts Peter Laviolette’s team in a tough spot this Thanksgiving evening.

Player to Watch: Will Cuylle

While the Rangers had one of their worst performances of the season on Monday, Will Cuylle was one of the few skaters on the team who showed any pulse. Cuylle skated alongside Kaapo Kakko and Brett Berard (in Berard’s NHL debut) and scored both of New York’s goals in a 5-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues. The second-year forward scored 21 points in 81 games as a rookie and has already tallied 17 points in the Blueshirts’ first 20 games this season. Keep an eye on Cuylle as he looks to continue his strong play.

Have fun with the game!
