NFC West recap: 49ers, Rams and Seahawks all win

Sorry San Francisco 49ers fans, I have good news and bad news.

First the good news: The 49ers won a game. It’s been a while, but Victory Monday is here.

Ok, now the bad news, which is much bigger: It was a win over the Chicago Bears. Although the win was necessary, the rest of the NFC West couldn’t help the 49ers. The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Buffalo Bills (making the 49ers’ loss to the Bills last week even more painful), and the Seahawks defeated the Cardinals to pick up another division win.

Oh, brother.

With the Rams’ win, the 49ers have moved up to fourth place. There’s a lot, and I mean A LOT, that matters in this Thursday night game against the Rams. And even if they win, the 49ers are in big trouble no matter how you look at it.

But the 49ers beat the Bears. They achieved the quest for six… victories. So there is something there. They have the same number of wins as their disappointment in 2020 (the COVID year). So another win makes the game at least a little bit better than this nightmare.

Seattle Seahawks (8-5)/Arizona Cardinals (6-7)

If you blinked at the start of this game, you saw the Cardinals were up by 7. If you blinked again, the Seahawks increased their lead. The Cardinals wouldn’t score another touchdown until just over a minute left in the third quarter.

It looked like the Cardinals were in the mix again. With that touchdown, they scored a successful two-point conversion, making the game 27-18.

But throughout the game, the Seahawks manhandled the Cardinals. Too little, too late. Final score: 30-18. Thanks for coming, Arizona.

Kyler Murray had a good series, the first possession leading to a touchdown. After that, nothing could work for him. He went 25-38, 259 yards passing, two touchdowns, two interceptions.

Meanwhile, Geno Smith posted a 24-30 record (80 percent completion), 233 passing yards and a touchdown. Considering the same defense gave the 49ers problems again earlier in the year and they’re a division rival, Smith has to be tipped.

The Seahawks’ win puts them two games ahead in the division. The problem with the 49ers is that they (the Seahawks) have to lose not just two, but three games due to division tiebreakers. Next week they face the Green Bay Packers, then the Minnesota Vikings, and they could lose both. Then they have the Chicago Bears (keep dreaming).

The Seahawks end the season at the Los Angeles Rams. So if the Bears can’t do anything in their game against Seattle, it would have to be the Rams’ third loss.

This is all assuming the 49ers can win. And assuming the Rams can lose a game or two. If the above scenario occurs, the Rams will also have to take some losses.

Los Angeles Rams (7-6)

Many of us didn’t see that San Francisco won last week’s game against Buffalo. Despite this skepticism, I doubt anyone has seen such a decline The.

So of course they beat the Los Angeles Rams the next week. Because 49ers.

It was a pretty competitive game. Now, as far as the first halves of football are concerned. The game was briefly tied; The Rams kicked a field goal in the second quarter to take the lead by three, and it looked like it was going to be a very close, even game.

Then the Rams blocked a Bills punt and cashed it in for the score. The Bills played from behind the rest of the game and were unable to regain the lead. Sure, they scored, but the Rams were on fire in the second half.

The Rams now climb to second place in the division. Like we said with the Seahawks, if you want the 49ers to win this thing, hope for some voodoo wins/losses from the Rams and Seahawks. Many things are out of their hands. Even though the 49ers weren’t eliminated from the postseason, this was the worst stream of events anyone could hope for today.

On week 15

The 49ers and Rams meet for the second game of the season. If you recall, the 49ers’ 2024 problems became clear in Week 3 when they jumped out to a lead and left the Rams back in the thick of things. This game is a Thursday Night Game, the second the 49ers play this season, because NFL, I guess.

The Seahawks host the Green Bay Packers. The Packers beat the 49ers well a few weeks ago and narrowly lost to the Detroit Lions last week. Hopefully Jordan Love and company will do the 49ers a favor.

The Cardinals will host the New England Patriots. This is a game that perhaps few would want to see. The Patriots have only had three wins this season. The Cardinals are better than their record suggests, so I wouldn’t hold my breath if the Patriots can win here.

1st: Seattle Seahawks; Next up: against the Green Bay Packers

2nd: Los Angeles Rams; Next up: the San Francisco 49ers

3rd: Arizona Cardinals; Next up: vs. New England Patriots

4th: San Francisco 49ers; Next up: against the Los Angeles Rams
