NFL fans lost their minds over a duck on the field

At one point during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ impressive 48-14 victory over Carolina, Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans chanted “Ducky!” Ducklings! Ducklings!”

While it sounded a lot like the chants for phenom Bucky Irving, who was having a good day himself with nearly 200 total yards to his name, fans weren’t mispronouncing his first name — they were actually cheering for a duck.

During the Tampa Bay-Carolina game, a duck randomly appeared on the field, instantly becoming a cult icon and rallying cry for the team, and went completely unfazed. Coincidentally, the Duck’s arrival was accompanied by a near-simultaneous touchdown and another shortly thereafter. Talk about a good luck charm, right?

The Duck ended up standing on the Bucs sideline to watch the end of the game.

“That was our lucky duck,” said Tampa star Mike Evans, who also called it the craziest thing he’d ever seen during a game, according to ESPN. “I’ve never seen us block a punt and then score a touchdown. When the duck flew over the field it was amazing.”

“I just thought it was funny. I was laughing the whole time when I saw the guy trying to get him off the field or whatever,” Tampa tight end Devin Culp said.

The players noticed a change in the air when the duck arrived, and the same was true for their fans, who flooded social media in support of the team’s new unofficial mascot.

“I’m obsessed with the Duck at the Tampa Bay game. That’s all,” one X user wrote.

Another fan took X a step further: “If the Bucs win the Super Bowl, this duck should be named mayor of Tampa.”

I agree, let’s get this duck every next game in Tampa Bay. While we’re at it, how about we change the name to the Tampa Bay DUCKaneers?

I’ll manage it.
