NFL Hall of Famer urges Steelers to move on from George Pickens: ‘He was terrible’

Shannon Sharpe says it’s time to move on from George Pickens. In a game in which Pickens was targeted six times and had zero yards and three drops, Sharpe had enough of Pickens’ antics.

Throughout the game, Pickens was seen on the sidelines in distress and even got into an argument with a fan at one point. Sharpe sees Mike Tomlin’s coddling of Pickens as the reason things have escalated to this point, and he believes it It’s time for Pickens and the Steelers to go their separate ways.

“I love it when they punish bad behavior. They’re punishing George Pickens tonight. And I love it. Yes, sir. And I’ve told you about it from day one. I’m saying, you know what, Mike Tomlin, you condone George Pickens’ behavior. When you win, you tolerate things you would never do when you lose,” Sharpe said. “I don’t think you can win with him. I want someone else to win. I want him to grow with someone else. Because this behavior and his play do not overcompensate for his behavior.”

Sharpe has a point here. Pickens has become much of a malcontent on the field, and his distractions have become noticeable off the field. The Steelers could trade him, but obviously they’re not in a good position to move on from a young, talented playmaker when the rest of the room is in shambles.

If the Steelers want to move on from Pickens, they’ll need to land some big fish at wide receiver, and they’ll need a clear plan for how they’re going to attack the space and improve it this offseason. Either way, with Pickens entering a contract year, it seems less likely that the Steelers will want to pay him.
