NFL player Trent Williams’ wife announces the death of their son, 35 weeks after losing his twin during pregnancy

NFL player Trent Williams and his wife Sondra Williams tragically lost their baby boy at 35 weeks after losing his twin early in their pregnancy.

On December 1, Sondra announced in a heartbreaking post on Instagram that her son Trenton O’Brien Williams Jr. was stillborn.

“It’s been extremely difficult to process the saddest hello and goodbye I’ve ever had to endure,” the San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle’s wife wrote alongside a series of pictures from her pregnancy.

“Last Sunday evening on 11/24/24; At 11:38 p.m. I greeted your lifeless 4 pound 8 ounce 18.5 inch long little body. At just 35 weeks, your impressive and rapid arrival didn’t even leave you time to get an epidural,” she continued.

“I am so grateful to have had your aunt Katina (who also cut your umbilical cord) and your nurse Hannah by my side. As much as I tried to prepare for our meeting, I was not prepared and never would be.”

Sondra explained that she lost Trenton’s twin “early in the pregnancy.” Trenton was then diagnosed with trisomy 13, a rare genetic disorder in which a person has an extra chromosome 13. The life expectancy of people with trisomy 13 is short, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Most babies with this condition do not live longer than a month.

“Half of babies born with trisomy 13 live longer than two weeks and fewer than 10% survive the first year of life,” according to the Mississippi Department of Health.

Sondra further wrote: “I prayed and hoped that your diagnosis of Trisomy 13 was not true and would not be the fate of my long-awaited beautiful son-Shine.

“My firstborn and only son, I always wanted you, but God wanted and needed you more. Knowing that you are with your great aunt Vivian in heaven and will always be our guardian angel brings me great comfort in the midst of all this grief.

“My heart is heavy. Being home without you in my arms has been quite an adjustment. Knowing that I will never be able to watch you grow older along with your sisters filled my eyes with tears.”

The devastated mother said it was heartbreaking to celebrate Thanksgiving “without my baby in my arms.” However, she remained confident that he would watch over her from heaven.

“And for that my heart smiles with gratitude,” she added. “I have peace of mind knowing that you will never have to suffer. Even though I will never hear your soft coos and cries or see those beautiful little eyes looking up at me, I am grateful to God for the time I spent with you.

“Madison loved listening to your heartbeat and watching the waves of movement in my stomach. “Trenton O’Brien Williams Jr., my sweet baby boy, we love you, our forever angel,” she finished.

The football professional did not comment on Trenton’s death.

Earlier this month, another NFL player suffered a similar loss. On November 9, Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Hakeem Adeniji shared a poignant post on Instagram in which he revealed that his son Semiu Zade Adeniji was stillborn just days before his wife Kayla Adeniji was due.

“Better days lie ahead,” he wrote alongside a picture of Kayla and him holding Semiu in the hospital.
