While the race for the No. 1 seed in the AFC is pretty much decided at this point, the race for the No. 1 seed in the NFC is still wide open.

The Detroit Lions continue to thrive, picking up another crucial win in Thursday’s divisional showdown against the Green Bay Packers. However, they couldn’t stand out from the Philadelphia Eagles or Minnesota Vikings for more than one game because they too are still on the rise.

Philadelphia has won nine straight, although it needed a late turnover on downs to avoid a challenge from the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. As for the Vikings, they have won six straight and looked dominant for much of Sunday’s 42-21 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

Detroit can at least fall back on a straight win over the Vikings, but the two NFC North rivals face each other in the final game of the regular season.

With just a one-game lead and two red-hot teams chasing them, the Lions may need to win to ensure they have a No. 1 seed and home-field advantage in the playoffs.

The first-round bye, which would also come with the top seed, would also come in handy as some of the NFC’s top contenders will be eliminated in the Wild Card round with so many strong teams fighting for playoff spots .

Elsewhere, after their dramatic win over the Bills, the Rams are still a factor in the Wild Card and NFC West races as they face a Week 18 clash with the division-leading Seattle Seahawks.

Stafford would be a dangerous opponent for anyone he faced in the postseason, so Los Angeles’ outcome will be one to keep an eye on.
