NFL scores, live updates: The 49ers are desperate for a win against the Bears as Chicago enters the post-Matt Eberflus era

Both the Bears and 49ers have seen better days this season. It doesn’t seem that long ago that Chicago entered the bye week 4-2 after defeating both Carolina and Jacksonville. Yes, these are two of the worst teams in the league this season, but wins by three or more touchdowns are hard to come by in the NFL, and rookie quarterback Caleb Williams seemed to be heating up. But the 4-8 Bears have now lost six straight, costing Matt Eberflus his job as head coach. While there are no moral victories, this series also includes losses of one point each against four NFC teams in the thick of the playoff chase – Washington, Green Bay, Minnesota and Detroit.

At 5-7, the 49ers still have some hope as they play in one of the NFL’s weaker divisions and Seattle is only two games ahead. But with only five games left to play and the injury list growing, things are looking up for San Francisco. The injury to Christian McCaffrey was a devastating development, and the injuries to Trent Williams and Nick Bosa were a major blow to the trenches. Add to that the fact that Fred Warner has played with a broken ankle this season, and it’s no wonder the team that has played in the last three NFC title games is already on the ropes heading into Week 14.

(Bye: Broncos, Colts, Commanders, Patriots, Ravens, Texans)
