If anyone makes a good guest on a talk show, it’s Nicholas Hoult. The Renfield The actor always has crazy beginning stories, like the time he casually told Seth Meyers it was him hunted by wolves. So of course he recently published a legend about the time he had to eat fake ice cream for a movie, and you won’t even believe what it actually was.

During press work for his latest film NosferatuHoult and co-star Lily Rose-Depp appeared in the Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill. Of course it is Skins The actor had to share a spontaneous anecdote about the time he had a diva moment (via @bestofhoult on X), and honestly, I don’t blame him:

The only time I was a diva on set was when there was a scene where I was supposed to eat ice cream. Of course I’m looking forward to it. And when I get there I bite into the ice cream and it’s lard mixed with food coloring and sugar. It was fake ice cream.

This has to be the worst unintentional prank ever. Imagine you’re craving ice cream on a nice, hot day and you bite into a piece of lard. Hoult doesn’t reveal which film he went to the trouble for, although that’s perhaps a good thing. I don’t think I could watch the current scene without feeling sick.

Well, those X Men The actor is no stranger to dealing with food, having starred in the critically acclaimed black comedy The menu. In fact, this reaction to the “ice cream” is very reminiscent of his character in The menuwho was a huge food snob. However, eating lard is a different kind of horror than the wild moments that occurred in Ralph Fiennes’ fictional restaurant.

I agree with the radio show host that Hoult’s reaction to the fake ice cream wasn’t even a diva move after the actor described the whole affair:

It was absolutely disgusting and my character was supposed to eat a lot of it throughout the day. And I said, “What’s that?” And they said, “Oh, that’s lard.” “We thought the ice might melt, because of the heat and stuff.” I said, “I don’t – no. “This won’t work for me.” And so they went to Tesco around the corner and got a real load of ice cream for me.

Hoult’s list of achievements is impressiveHe’s done some pretty wild things on screen and I think he’s a fantastic actor. However, I don’t care what anyone says, no one is a good enough actor to enjoy eating lard all day. Just thinking about it makes my stomach hurt.

I wouldn’t blame him if he never blindly took a bite of food again, it seems to be a slightly scarring experience. It was The Order The star’s first thought when the conversation turned to disgusting things the actors did for a film like this real rats they had on set while filming Nosferatu. Rats and ice cream, not really related. So it’s obvious that the experience left a lasting impression on him.

Luckily I don’t think it’s his upcoming role as Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s highly anticipated film Supermanset for publication Cinema program 2025required him to eat disgusting fake food. However, if you’re looking for dark surprises yourself (the good kind), Hoult has just released some intense films – with Nosferatu play in theaters and Juror #2 Available to stream with a Maximum subscription.
