Nick Sirianni: The passing game wasn’t up to our standard yesterday

The Eagles won their ninth straight game on Sunday, but it wasn’t all smiles in the locker room after the game

Wide receivers AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith vented their frustration with an aerial attack that covered just 108 yards in a 22-16 win over the Panthers. On Monday, head coach Nick Sirianni said he enjoys having “a very mature team with great leaders who are very focused on getting better” when asked about the atmosphere on the team, saying that’s obviously an area is that needs to be improved.

“It is no secret that we did not meet our standards in this area yesterday,” Sirianni said in a video conference. “It’s just getting back to work.”

Brown said it was difficult to find a rhythm while being targeted four times in the game and specifically said “passing” when asked what the team needed to do better. Sirianni said he and Brown talk often and that the team wants the ball to go his way.

“AJ is a great soccer player, we always try to get the ball in his hands,” Sirianni said. “It doesn’t always work.”

Sirianni also answered questions about quarterback Jalen Hurts throwing deep less often in recent games than he did earlier in the season. He said Hurts tries to find the best spot to beat the defense on a given play, noting that the quarterback has been a big part of the current winning streak.

“Make no mistake, we have won nine games in a row and Jalen Hurts is a big reason why we have won nine in a row,” Sirianni said.

The Eagles will look to post a franchise-record 10th straight win against the Steelers in Week 15, and a more productive passing game wouldn’t hurt that performance.
