Nima Momeni was found guilty of murdering Cash App founder Bob Lee

IT consultant Nima Momeni was convicted by a jury in San Francisco on Tuesday of the fatal 2023 knife attack on Cash App founder and cryptocurrency manager Bob Lee.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said in a news release obtained by USA TODAY that Momeni faces between 16 years and life in prison for the second-degree murder conviction, although a sentencing date has not yet been confirmed.

“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial,” Jenkins said in the statement. “I would also like to thank Mr. Lee’s family for their trust and belief in my office on this long journey to justice.”

According to reports from the courtroom by several local media outlets, including NBC Bay Area, Momeni appeared emotionless as the verdict was read. It was reached on Monday after weeks of deliberations that began on December 4th.

Tuesday’s sentencing ended a trial that had been ongoing since October. According to NBC News, Assistant District Attorney Omid Talai said in his opening statement that Lee was “stabbed through his heart and left for dead.”

How did Bob Lee die?

Lee was killed on April 4, 2023 near downtown San Francisco. Police attended the scene and found Lee “obviously suffering from stab wounds.” He was then taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died, a statement from prosecutors said.

A day later, MobileCoin CEO Josh Goldbard confirmed Lee’s death to USA TODAY.

“Our dear friend and colleague Bob Lee died yesterday at the age of 43, leaving behind a loving family and a host of close friends and associates,” Goldbard said in a statement. “Bob was a dynamo, a force of nature… He was made for the world that was being born, he was a child of dreams, and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made real.”
