No. 10 Texas A&M Aggies storm back to a thrilling win against No. 17 Oklahoma Sooners

Despite a string of quality wins this season, the Texas A&M Aggies’ most recent win was their best yet.

Zhuric Phelps scored a career-high 34 points and No. 10 Texas A&M edged the No. 17 Oklahoma Sooners, 80-78, on Wednesday in Norman. The Aggies trailed by as many as 18 seconds in the second half before Phelps made the three-pointer with 19.6 seconds left in the game.

The Aggies survived despite a career night from Oklahoma guard Brycen Goodine, who scored a whopping 34 points off the bench on 9-for-11 shooting from deep. His nine 3-pointers are the third-most ever made by a Sooner.

Texas A&M was without star guard and top scorer Wade Taylor IV, who missed only the second game of his college career. Phelps improved in his absence, shooting 6 of 10 from 3-point range as well as five rebounds and three steals. Solomon Washington (11 points) and Pharrel Payne (10 points) also finished in double figures.

Guards Jeremiah Fears (13 points) and Jalon Moore (11 points) also scored in double figures for Oklahoma. The Sooners made 14 of 24 from distance, finished the game with a 21-11 assist edge and had seven blocks, but recorded 18 turnovers compared to Texas A&M’s nine and lost the game by a score of 36-20.

Texas A&M will now continue the gauntlet of the SEC schedule when they face Mark Sears and No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide hosted at Reed Arena. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
