No. 2 Huskies beat Holy Cross

STORRS, Conn. – Freshmen Sarah Strong had a personal best 22 points and led the second-ranked UConn women’s basketball team (7-0) past Holy Cross (4-4) 88-52 on Tuesday night at Gampel Pavilion.

Strong 9-for-12 shooting from the field and 4-for-5 from three-point range. She scored all of her points in the second and third quarters. Strong also grabbed seven rebounds and two steals.

PhD student Kaitlyn Chen As a redshirt senior, he posted season-highs of 14 points and seven assists Paige Bueckers posted 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.

The Huskies were sluggish in the first 20 minutes and took a 33-27 lead at halftime.

UConn closed out after halftime, outscoring the Crusaders 55-25 in the second half on 64.7 percent shooting.

The Huskies scored 29 turnovers and had 27 assists on 35 made field goals.

Tuesday marked the first start of the season for the doctoral students Azzi Fudd.

The Huskies travel to Brooklyn, NY to take on No. 22 Louisville in the inaugural Women’s Champions Classic this Saturday at Barclays Center at 9 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FOX.

The Cardinals are the first of four ranked opponents the Huskies face in December.
