Norfolk residents enjoy winter’s first plowable snow – NBC Connecticut

This is the first widespread snow of the season, but folks up in the northwest corner of Connecticut say it’s just another day at the office.

“We Norforkers have thick skin. We’re ready for the cold,” said Norfolk resident Lindsey Prevuznak.

She said she has winter tires on her car half the year. It’s not the first time it’s snowed in Connecticut’s ice zone this winter, but she said she’s enjoying it nonetheless.

“Well, I get snow before anyone else does,” Prevuznak said.

Despite the snow, people in the city are out and about, enjoying the local pub or hitting the ice at the curling club.

“It’s not a big surprise to anyone who comes here often,” said Stuary Hayes of Norfolk.

He said although curling is an indoor winter sport, the snow is the real experience. He hopes the early snowfall in December is a good omen.

“Hopefully we at least have a white Christmas,” Hayes said.

“A lot of people here rely on the snow between the ski slopes and the snow plow drivers,” said Jon Barbagallo, public information officer for the city of Norfolk.

He said Norfolk’s nine plows are operational and expects this to be the first plowable snow of the season.

This comes with a driving surface that you probably haven’t experienced in a long time.

“We will have crews on standby that will be called in throughout the evening to go out there and clear some of the snow from our roads,” said Josh Morgan with the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

This is said to be the first snow of the season and snow crews will be out in most parts of Connecticut.

As for driving, the state recommends you stay alert, give yourself extra time, and avoid passing trucks or crowding plows.
