Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman is making history with a berth in the CFP title game

Even before the Orange Bowl was played, everyone knew history would be made in the College Football Playoff title game. Regardless of whether Notre Dame or Penn State won in Miami, either Marcus Freeman or James Franklin would become the first black coach to lead his team to that title game.

With the Irish’s 27-24 victory over the Nittany Lions, that honor goes to Freeman and he will forever be etched in the history books. Of course, an Irish championship would mean making history again, but that’s enough for now.

Freeman has won Coach of the Year honors both left and right, and this success shows why. He has proven that he is one of the best executives in college football, and his recent contract extension means he will continue to do so in South Bend for the next few years.

Freeman still has one more task ahead of him and Irish fans will be watching closely to see if he can tick it off the list.
