NWS Warnings are in effect as the threat of snow and wind increases

Snow and wind intensify in Upper Michigan on Wednesday as the lake effect engine activates in the wake of an emerging clipper system. Southwesterly winds will direct lake effect snow north of Upper Michigan on Tuesday. Rapid snowfall, visibility will be almost zero if the journey is turbulent, before the snow and wind gradually taper to the west on Thursday. From Friday to early Saturday, only a few to isolated snow showers will move across the region before there is a brief respite. Sunday will see a mix of snow and rain as high temperatures briefly rise above freezing.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with moderate to heavy snow; areas with blowing snow; Further south, the snow cover decreases; windy with northerly winds gusting to 50 mph or greater near Lake Superior

Thursday: Mostly cloudy with isolated lake effect snow, moderate to heavy intensity, then gradually tapering to the west; areas with blowing snow; few snow showers, more sunshine far to the south; windy

Saturday: Partly to mostly cloudy with snow increasing eastward; airy, less cold
