Obi-Martin is on the ball as Man Utd beat Coventry in the FAYC

Manchester United U18s beat Coventry City 5-0 in the FA Youth Cup yesterday.

Manchester United kicked off their FA Youth Cup campaign on Wednesday evening, hosting Coventry City at Leigh Sports Village. After last season’s shock early exit from the FA Youth Cup, manager Adam Lawrence didn’t want to make the same mistake twice.

A wonderful hat-trick from Gabriele Biancheri and a brace from Chido Obi-Martin helped the Red Devils get past a Championship side who looked baffled throughout the contest.

When asked about Biancheri’s brilliant hat-trick, Lawrence replied that the striker should have scored more in a game that was very one-sided.

“Yes, the first thing he (Biancheri) said to me at the end of the game was ‘I should have scored six goals’.”

“Gabe started on the left but we worked with him a bit when we had the ball, Harry Amass played higher and Gabe got closer to Chido.

“They are both number nines so we tried to find a way where they are both in the team and we can use both of their qualities.

“I think the way they played together and the way they got along was really good. We always try to find the best way to play on the pitch. Apart from the goals, both had good games.”
