I don’t want to rush things, but with lots of snow on the ground, colder temperatures to prevent melting, and a fresh new coat of paint for today, Boston will finally have a white Christmas this year! There is an actual definition of a white Christmas that says there is 1 inch of snow on the ground at 7 a.m. on Christmas morning.

The last time Boston had a white Christmas was 2009, 15 years ago! In 2017, Boston recorded snow on Christmas Day, but as of 7 a.m. there wasn’t even 1 inch of snow on the ground.

And you’ll see a few more flakes flying today. It won’t do much, just a fresh coat of paint for most of us. The best chance of getting perhaps 1-2″ is on the highest terrain in Worcester County. Even there you can see the 1 to 3 inch outline, but I would expect 1 to MAYBE 2 inches in some places. It’s not much, just enough to freshen everything up from last Friday’s snow.

The small band of snow is light and moves quickly – a clipper that can do just that: cut us. This morning it will snow lightly, in the afternoon it will dry out and there will be sunshine too. Temperatures will rise to over 30C today, which is still below average, but after the last few days it will likely feel mild. Luckily there isn’t much wind so like yesterday there won’t be much (if any) wind chill.

Aside from the light snowfall this morning, which could result in slower travel and some slippery patches, the travel forecast for the rest of the week is smooth for your holiday travel plans.
