Ohio State quarterback Will Howard says his non-throwing hand is “fine” after fans on social media noticed a rather unusual-looking bump on his hand during the Buckeyes’ win over Texas in the Cotton Bowl on Friday night.

The 23-year-old Howard appeared to have sustained an injury to his left hand first half of the game.

CBS Sports reported that the lump formed on his hand after he appeared to hit a Longhorns player’s helmet with his hand.

There was heated discussion on social media about the bizarre-looking injury as the lump appeared to be getting bigger and bigger.

ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe said during the broadcast that Howard received no treatment for the bump during the game. After Ohio State’s win, ESPN’s Jake Trotter reported that Howard told him his hand was “just fine.”

Howard was 24 of 33 passing for 289 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Now, in his first season with the Buckeyes after entering the transfer portal last season, Howard has given Ohio State a chance to win its first national title in over a decade.

The Buckeyes will take it Notre Dame in the national championship game Jan. 20 in Atlanta.
