Ohio State vs. Oregon result, live updates: College Football Playoff quarterfinals in the Rose Bowl

We’re ringing in 2025 with two College Football Playoff games.

Penn State started its quarterfinals with a 31-14 win over Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl on Tuesday. Texas joined PSU in the semifinals with a dramatic double-overtime win over Arizona State in the Peach Bowl on Wednesday afternoon. Who will join them from the Rose Bowl?

The final game of the quarterfinals – the Sugar Bowl showdown between Georgia and Notre Dame – was postponed until Thursday after a terrorist attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans in the early hours of Jan. 1 left at least 10 people dead and dozens more dead were injured.

How relaxed is Ohio State? The Buckeyes looked like a completely different team against the Volunteers than they did against Michigan. The offensive stats from the October 12 matchup between Ohio State and Oregon were nearly identical. The big difference between the teams came from penalties and ball losses.     After blowing a late 16-point lead, Texas can end up securing a thrilling Peach Bowl win in double overtime. The Longhorns advance to the Cotton Bowl semifinals.

    The Ducks faced a four-and-4 at midfield and went for it, but Dillon Gabriel’s pass fell incomplete and the Buckeyes will take over.

    Jayden Fielding’s 46-yard kick splits the uprights as the Buckeyes extend the lead.

  • Ohio State is on the move again

    The downfield passing game has worked like a charm for the Buckeyes so far. At the end of the first quarter they find themselves back in the Oregon 30.

  • Oregon punts again

    Oregon eventually got a few first downs, but couldn’t get far past midfield.

    It’s another empty ride as the Ducks have struggled to find their footing so far.

  • Where has this Ohio State team been all year?

    The deep passing game has opened up so far in the College Football Playoff, as the Buckeyes hold an early two-point lead over Oregon.

    Ohio State opened the season as the favorite to win the national title due to a wealth of talent assembled in Columbus during the offseason. But some uneven offensive performances during the regular season had some – including you – questioning whether this team was capable of winning it all. So far, Ohio State looks fantastic. But it’s still very, very early in the Rose Bowl.

    While everyone was watching the end of the Peach Bowl, Ohio State scored a rushing touchdown and stopped Oregon on its first possession.

    On the first play of the 2nd OT, Quinn Ewers passes to TE Gunnar Helm for a score! And the Longhorns converted the required 2-point attempt. What a sequence for Texas.
