Earlier this season, on October 12, Oregon defeated Ohio State in a nail-biting, close-to-the-point thriller to secure a 32-31 win at Autzen Stadium. It was Oregon’s first Big Ten match of the season and a historic win for the Ducks, who were 0-19 entering the game against top-two opponents.

The score of the game fluctuated back and forth throughout the game. Ohio State struck first, outscoring Oregon by a single point in the first quarter (7-6). The Ducks gained momentum in the second quarter, outscoring the Buckeyes 16-14 and taking a narrow lead 22-21 at halftime. The third quarter belonged to Ohio State as the Buckeyes scored seven unanswered points and reclaimed the lead. But Oregon secured the win, outscoring Ohio State 10-3 in the fourth.

With less than two minutes left, Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard orchestrated a drive into Oregon territory. As time expired, Howard attempted to extend the play but failed to run the clock out, preventing Ohio State from calling a timeout. A quick slip likely would have given the Buckeyes a chance for a game-winning field goal.
