Okami 2 revealed at the Game Awards 2024

In an incredible surprise that no one expected, a large orchestra and a man with a bass drum took the stage at the Game Awards 2024 to unveil the new game from Hideki Kamiya’s studio. And it’s not a new IP – much to our delight, it’s a real, bona fide sequel to Okami. Okami 2.

We didn’t see much of what Okami 2 will actually be during the show. The reveal consisted of great music from the aforementioned orchestra and drummer, as well as a teaser presumably showing Amaterasu running through a field towards the horizon. There’s more to come soon, let’s hope so!

Capcom has been quietly laying the groundwork for a new Okami for some time now. Earlier this year, fans were asked if they were interested in an Okami sequel, as well as sequels to Dead Rising, Mega Man, Breath of Fire, Dino Crisis and more. We’ve also heard from Kamiya himself lately that he’s asked Capcom for the opportunity to make both Okami 2 and Viewtiful Joe 3, and that he believes the original Okami team was “weak” and “not a dream team.” was – which he suggests Maybe he put something together that he’s a little happier with this time.

Even though Kamiya didn’t think the original team was as good as it could have been, we still loved the original Okami. We gave the Wii version a 9/10 at the time, calling it “one of the most ambitious and wildly entertaining Wii titles of all time.”
