Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin jokes that Jaxson Dart should claim a waiver for more eligibility

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – There is no doubt that Ole Miss football quarterback Jaxson Dart will miss.

Dart, a senior quarterback playing in his final game, dominated Ole Miss’s 52-20 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. He passed for 404 yards and four touchdowns and broke two Ole Miss records in a single season.

Although Dart is no longer eligible to play, that didn’t stop coach Lane Kiffin from joking in an in-game interview that he might give Dart an extra year, alluding to Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia.

In an interview between the third and fourth quarters, Kiffin was asked on ESPN about Dart’s performance and Dart’s use in the fourth quarter.

“It’s great,” Kiffin said. “He’s playing great. You never know, maybe he’ll file a waiver and come back another year.”

Kiffin was referring to Pavia, Vanderbilt’s quarterback who successfully sued the NCAA to get an extra year of eligibility. Since Pavia’s lawsuit stems from his time at the junior college and Dart did not play at the junior college, Dart cannot receive the same treatment.

“Are you pushing for it?” Kiffin was asked.

“Perhaps.” Kiffin said.
