Oleksandr Usyk “got a Christmas present from the judges”

Tyson Fury is not happy with the way his championship rematch with Oleksandr Usyk was handled by the referees.

The British boxing star again felt weak against Usyk and came up short with a 116-112 decision by all three judges in their heavyweight championship rematch held in Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening. Fury felt he had done enough to get the nod and is frustrated with the judgment.

“I felt a little Christmas spirit there. I think he got a Christmas present from the judges – a Christmas present too early,” Fury told reporters in the post-fight press conference.

The WBC, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles were on the line in this rematch between Usky and Fury. The two had fought earlier in the year, and Usky was able to go home as the winner by split decision.

Fury claims he won the first fight and will do the same in this rematch for the championship.

“I was pretty confident. I thought I won that fight again,” Fury said. “I think I have Larry Holmes (Syndrome). I thought I won both fights, but I still have two losses on my record so there’s not much I can do about it. I can just fight my heart out and do my best. Again, I will always believe this until the day I die: I thought I won that fight.”

When asked what’s next, Fury’s mind is only focused on spending the holidays with his family. He didn’t waver one way or the other when discussing a possible trilogy with Usyk.

“Go home and have some time off,” Fury said. “You might do that, you might not (fight Usyk again). Who knows. We’ll talk about that next year.”
