Actress Olivia Hussey came into the limelight as a teenager for her role in the 1968 film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet and has died aged 73.

The Argentine-born actress, who grew up in London, died on Friday surrounded by her loved ones, a statement she posted on her Instagram account confirms.

Hussey won the Golden Globe for Best New Actress for her role as Julia, but decades later she sued Paramount Pictures for sexual abuse because she was only 15 when she saw a nude scene for the film.

Her most notable film role was when she played the role of Mary, the mother of Jesus, in the 1977 TV miniseries Jesus of Nazareth.

“As we mourn this immense loss, we also celebrate Olivia’s lasting impact on our lives and our industry,” she said in the statement.
