The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Georgia Bulldogs will complete the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff this afternoon.

While the staff here at Fighting Irish Wire has already made their picks, I wanted to update mine a bit after seeing what happened before the Irish and Bulldogs took the field.

The three teams that had a bye did not fare well in this round of the CFP and each of them has lost in the last few days. While that’s a good sign for Notre Dame, it won’t necessarily overwhelm them.

What could be is that the Bulldogs will be missing several players, whether due to injuries, opt-outs or entering the portal. As we all know, and in case you haven’t, the Irish have yet to move on from a player after the end of the regular season.

I stand by my assessment that Notre Dame beats Georgia 31-14 and the Irish face Penn State in the semifinals.
