Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel suggests football games should be played without inclement weather

Oregon Ducks football star quarterback Dillon Gabriel made it clear under what conditions he believes football games should be played.

During an interview with KOIN News on Tuesday before his team’s Rose Bowl match against Ohio State, Gabriel described his ideal vision of the conditions in which his games should be played and questioned the idea of playing in snow and rain.

“We love warm weather. I think we should play more football on nice grass instead of artificial turf. And the more sun, the better. Why are we doing this to ourselves? Do the fans want to sit in the snow and rain?” Gabriel said. “Let’s just build arenas. Let’s build domes. Let’s make lawn. Let’s have more fireworks at games.”

Gabriel didn’t even rule out supporting the premise that all college football games would be played in Hawaii.

“I don’t think anyone would be mad about it,” Gabriel, a Hawaii native, said of the idea. “Let’s find more sun.”

Gabriel, who is completing his sixth season of college football, has been one of the best quarterbacks this season. Gabriel was named a 2024 First-Team All-American, Big 10 MVP and Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year. He achieved all of this despite moving to Oregon, one of the rainiest states in the United States, and playing in an outdoor stadium with artificial turf.

I was privileged to be a part of it.” “Lots of different cool environments and it was very exciting. The more the better. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Gabriel previously told Fox News Digital.

“Somehow I had to be at the right time… I think college is very special, and I think it’s a crucial time to be the player you want to be, to prepare for the biggest interview of my life the NFL.”
