Orlando woman arrested for drunk driving in fatal crash

ORLANDO, Fla. — A 26-year-old Orlando woman was arrested for drunken driving in connection with a fatal crash in Orange County early Sunday.

The fatal accident occurred around 4 a.m. on the South Orange Blossom Trail at the Skyview Bridge.

The FHP said Alyssa Winters was driving a 2016 Lexus IS south on the OBT when a woman crossed the street but was not in a marked crosswalk.

The Lexus struck the woman, who was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, according to the FHP.

Winters, who was uninjured and remained at the scene, was arrested for driving under the influence, troopers said.

According to an affidavit, Winters had watery eyes and appeared “confused with the events of the crash.” Bottles of alcohol were also seen near their vehicle.

Cops said when Winters was asked to provide a recorded statement, she refused and also refused to provide a blood sample at the scene several times because she was “afraid of needles.”

As they tried to put Winters in the back of the patrol vehicle, officers said she was arguing and wouldn’t get into the vehicle.

After her arrest, Winters requested an ambulance because of back pain and again refused to provide another blood sample at the hospital, cops said.
