OSU presents historic drone show and lights up The Shoe with Scarlet Glow for playoff game

Ohio Stadium will be a vision in red when the Buckeyes face Tennessee in a College Football Playoff game on Saturday. A scarlet glow is just a one-way street as OSU lights up Ohio Stadium this weekend.

Scarlet LEDs have been installed in every part of the stadium, shining onto the pitch, towards the fans in the stands and across The Shoe. You can even see the glow while driving the 315.

The team behind the scenes said they believe the gloss will send a message to Tennessee and the team’s fans.

“I think they’ll realize it’s really going to be the Buckeye’s home game,” said Caleb Clark, associate AD for marketing and live events. “That scarlet glow and feel of it all will energize the Buckeye fans and the team as well.”

The fans will also witness a historic moment on Saturday. The largest drone show in college athletics history takes place between the third and fourth quarters.

The show, produced by the company Sky Elements, will feature 500 drones that will fly 550 feet above the stadium’s south video board.

“The drone show will be during ‘Hang on Sloopy,’ so you might say something during the song that you might see on the drones,” Clark hinted. “The drones will also form a CFP logo and two Ohio State formations.”

Clark said fans will also see a laser show projection in the Rotunda on Friday night and during the game on Saturday.

“The rotunda will be lit red and there will be some elements shot up with lasers,” Clark said. “In addition, the home team’s tunnel for team entrances will be illuminated with lasers.”

It’s sure to be a historic evening at The Shoe.
