Oswego County is under a Lake Effect Snow Advisory Friday through Monday

At 12:21 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow warning in effect for Oswego County from 7 a.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Monday.

The weather service added: “Heavy lake snowfall is expected. The most persistent lake snowfall will likely see several feet of snow over the weekend. The highest accumulations will occur near the Tug Hill Plateau. Snowfall rates are likely to exceed 5 cm at times an hour.”

“Travel will be very difficult and at times almost impossible. The hazardous conditions will certainly impact the Friday evening commute,” the weather service added. “With lake effect snow, the weather can vary from heavy snow in places with severely reduced visibility to dry conditions just a few miles away. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility and road conditions. Consider delaying travel. If you have to.” When driving, use extreme caution, leaving plenty of space between you and the driver in front of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Be particularly careful on slopes or when turning.
