The Melbourne Cricket Ground’s (MCG) Stumpmic microphone caught a hilarious conversation between Indian captain Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, a video of which has now gone viral. Rohit was heard urging Jadeja to embrace aggressive fielding, adding that if no one was taking the wickets, he would have to take the ball himself.

The incident occurred just before the end of the first innings when the final Australian pair, Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland, were at the crease. This stand earned the hosts 19 runs as they concluded the Boxing Day Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 with an impressive score of 474/10 in 122.4 overs.

Channel Star Sports uploaded a video of the incident in which Rohit can be heard saying, “Nahi jaayega yaar… udhar out hojayega.” Itna lamba hai udhar yaar. Hume out karne mein dekhna hai usko yaar. Out Kaun Karega fir, main? Mereko daalna padhega!’ (It’s not going out, man… the boundary is pretty long on this side. We’ve got to try and get him out. Who’s going to get him out then, me? Then I’ve got to bowl!)

Apart from a few good moments, India struggled badly in the first innings. Steven Smith made a massive 140 (197), but more significantly, bowlers Pat Cummins (49 off 63), Mitchell Starc (15 off 36) and Lyon (13 off 18) made significant contributions. Rohit’s captaincy and India’s planning proved poor and was heavily criticized.

The skipper’s day didn’t get much better as he managed just 3 (5) in the second innings after moving to the top of the order after two Tests. In the second over, he tried a half-hearted move against Pat Cummins and ended up giving a gentle advantage to mid-wicket.

“This is just a lazy, inactive, not ready for the moment shot,” former Australia captain Ricky Ponting told 7 Cricket upon the dismissal. “Since his career he has been known as one of the best players and players who pull the ball.” His debut, but that’s just not there. It’s not committed, it doesn’t look really aggressive, he’s just trying to keep it in the wicket, yes it could be But if you want to survive against this Australian attack you have to make good decisions You’re over every time.

With this, Rohit totaled 22 runs from four innings in the series at an average of 5.50.
