Packers 30-13 Seahawks (December 15, 2024) Game Recap

SEATTLE — Romeo Doubs improbably made his second touchdown catch of the night against Jordan Love, securing a crucial victory for the Packers and moving them closer to the postseason.

Love threw for 229 yards and Doubs’ two touchdowns, and Green Bay ended the Seattle Seahawks’ four-game winning streak with a 30-13 win on Sunday night.

It was the second touchdown, caught by Doubs as he fell to the turf while covering Seattle’s Devon Witherspoon with 4:59 left, and had opposing fans at Lumen Field chanting “Go Pack Go!”

“The couple’s drives before that, we just felt like we weren’t getting much out of it, you know, we weren’t playing at that high level and we weren’t making the plays that we were making,” Love said. “To kind of stall some of those drives and then get a drive down the field and finish with the touchdown out there — Romeo makes a great catch — definitely helps you breathe a little easier.”

Josh Jacobs ran for 94 yards and a touchdown for the Packers (10-4), who have won eight of 10 games. Brandon McManus kicked three field goals.

The Seahawks (8-6) lost quarterback Geno Smith to a knee injury in the third quarter.

Smith was hit low by Packers linebacker Edgerrin Cooper and threw his helmet to the ground after limping off the field. He was replaced by Sam Howell, who previously only had one snap for Seattle.

Smith completed 15 of 19 passes for 149 yards with one interception and Howell completed 5 of 14 for 24 yards and a pick.

The Packers’ two losses in their last 10 games came against NFC North leader Detroit, including a 34-31 loss on Dec. 5, meaning the division title is likely out of reach. Green Bay has not yet secured a spot in the playoffs, but the team is moving closer to its goal.

“I like where we are,” Love said. “We just have to keep finding ways to get better, keep pushing each other and find ways to get those wins to end the season. “But I like where we are.”

The Seahawks were tied for first place in the NFC West with the Los Angeles Rams, and Smith’s injury could hurt their chances of winning the division. He will undergo an ultrasound on Monday, but coach Mike Macdonald said the knee appears to be structurally sound.

“We know what kind of team we are. We know what the goal is and what we want to achieve. With playoff ball, the emphasis is just on what we said at the beginning of the year we wanted to do,” said Seattle linebacker Ernest Jones IV. “That’s winning the division, getting to the playoffs , to get a home playoff game, one or two, or whatever the case may be.”

Love finished 20 of 27 and Doubs, who missed the last two games in the concussion protocol, had three catches for 40 yards.

Smith was intercepted in the end zone in the first half and the Seahawks trailed 20-3 at halftime. Green Bay scored on all four possessions in the first half.

A unnecessary roughness penalty on Seattle’s Riq Woolen moved the Packers to the Seattle 28 on their first possession. Jacobs’ 1-yard TD run capped the drive.

The Packers took a 14-0 lead on Love’s 13-yard pass to Doubs, who dragged two defenders into the end zone and then waved at a television camera.

The Seahawks closed the gap on Jason Myers’ 48-yard field goal, but McManus answered with a 38-yarder for the Packers.

The Seahawks drove to the Green Bay 12, but Smith’s pass intended for Noah Fant was intercepted in the end zone by Carrington Valentine, the second-year defensive back’s first career pick.

It was Smith’s 13th interception of the season and fourth in the end zone.

Woolen was cited by Green Bay for pass interference by Doubs in the final half, but the Packers settled for McManus’ 21-yard field goal.

The Seahawks showed life early in the fourth quarter when Zach Charbonnet’s 24-yard touchdown run made it 23-13. Three plays later, Doubs made a nice 22-yard throw to Doubs, whose elbow landed in the back of the end zone.

Travel package

Green Bay traveled to Lumen Field for the first time since 2018 and had not won in Seattle since 2008. Coach Matt LaFleur and Love said they were surprised by the number of Packers fans — and how loud they were.

“It’s a tough place to play, it’s extremely loud and I was shocked when our defense was on the field and I could hear our Packer fans. I definitely think that made a difference for us,” LaFleur said.

Packers: LB Quay Walker (ankle) left the ball in the first half and did not return. All-Pro CB Jaire Alexander (knee) was inactive for the fourth straight game.
