Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs made an immediate impact in his return from injury, catching three passes for 40 yards and two touchdowns in the Packers’ Sunday night win over the Seattle Seahawks. Few players were happier to see Doubs back in the lineup than quarterback Jordan Love.

“You always want your best guys to be out there healthy and it was hard not having Rome out there but getting him back and obviously him having those two touchdowns tonight was huge,” Love said. “You know, he’s one of our best playmakers on offense, so it’s always good to have him back out there.”

Doubs put a dent in the Packers’ victory with a 22-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. In the first quarter, he weaved through two defenders for a 12-yard score that gave the Packers a 14-0 lead.

Doubs missed the last two games due to a concussion, which caused him to wear a Guardian cap for the first time in the game. Doubs said it was entirely his decision to wear the extra protective padding on his helmet.

“It’s better to be safe than sorry,” said Doubs, who remained in the concussion protocol for nearly three weeks due to a blow to the head he suffered Nov. 24 against the San Francisco 49ers.

There is no connection, but Doubs put in an impressive performance in his first game with a Guardian cap. However, he is not sure if he will continue to wear it.

“To be completely honest, I don’t even know,” Doubs said. “I don’t want to make it a superstition that I have to wear one despite my performance.”

Guardian Caps were first introduced to the league in 2020. The caps are a softshell helmet cover that helps reduce the impact of impacts and head injuries. According to NFL research, they can absorb at least 10% of the force of a punch and are 52% less likely to sustain a concussion.

Guard caps are mandatory for all players during training camp practices, but more players have begun wearing them during games during the 2024 season.

Doubs is the first Packers player to wear a Guardian cap in a game this season. Whether he continues to wear a protective cap remains to be seen, but given its protective nature, it could help prevent future head injuries.
