Well, I think Nick used to be the guy with a killer instinct. He is very good at defeating the bad guys and he is good at winning. That’s all he really knows. At the end of the last movie he thought, “I’m screwed and this guy’s good.” It kind of drained him, tore him apart, but also brought him back to life in a way…

… And he doesn’t feel supported by the police. He is divorced. Life wasn’t that great. But he has Donnie, and Donnie is something to aspire to. So he’s like a bear with a sore paw that leads to all these great opportunities with the movie and the heist.
