Paradise Mayor Steve Crowder spoke to Action News Now about the Southern California wildfires and the memories of the Camp Fire that came to mind.

PARADISE, California – The out-of-control wildfires in Southern California are bringing back painful memories for survivors of the devastating 2018 Camp Fire.

Action News Now spoke to several people in the Paradise area on Wednesday about the wildfires in the Los Angeles area and they say it brings back memories of the Camp Fire.

The Eaton Fire, fueled by strong Santa Ana winds near Pasadena, has killed five people. Since yesterday, more and more people have been asked to evacuate as the fire gets out of control.

Many of the people Action News Now in Paradise spoke with say it’s close to home for them to see it all play out in Southern California.

“It’s sickening to watch the news this morning and see what happened to them is exactly what happened to us,” said Paradise Mayor Steve Crowder. “The weather conditions are similar, it hasn’t rained for so long, the fires raged there like in this city, and that made this day an unforgettable experience. My deepest sympathies go out to everyone out there, and this is hope.” No one else has to go through what we did.

Crowder tells Action News Now that he spoke to Altadena’s CEO and said, in part, “Anything we can do in paradise to help, we’re here to help.”

“If they do that, I hope they contact us,” Crowder said. “We can be a resource and whatever resource you have, because unfortunately we’ve kind of written the book on it.”

Crowder said he told Altadena’s CEO that “there is a light at the end of the tunnel and you will come back from this.”
