Parody company launches GAG micronuclear reactor

There was a new update in the fallen Enron company’s “revival” as it unveiled a new product that it says can “power your entire home continuously for up to 10 years.”

On Monday, the company unveiled its new “micronuclear reactor” called the “Enron Egg.”

The rollout included a five-minute, 26-second announcement video that resembled a classic Steve Jobs Apple product launch.

In the video, “Enron CEO” Connor Gaydos makes several outlandish claims, including that Enron worked with FEMA to provide Enron eggs to first responders around the world.

It probably goes without saying, but this rollout is not serious.

The former Houston-based company, which was the subject of one of the largest bankruptcy filings in U.S. history more than 20 years ago, reemerged in December with a sudden “rebranding.” This came as a shock to many, but it quickly became clear that the new version of the company was designed as a satirical movement rather than a sincere venture.

My view of the “Enron egg”

Parody companies are anything but a new phenomenon. Finally, satirical news websites like The onion have found success in the realm of commentary-by-parody and a “let’s say something ridiculous and see if anyone bites” mentality.

Still, the entire launch seems like a lot of effort for a fairly inexpensive piece. While it’s entertaining to mock the eccentric tech leaders with their larger-than-life rollouts, it’s happened before. Ironically, it looks like the former energy company is putting too much gas into this part.

But then again, maybe I just don’t get the joke!
