Patrick Mahomes clarified his unenthusiastic reaction to Netflix’s football-shaped cake in a postgame interview after leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a Christmas victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After the celebratory showdown, Mahomes and teammate Travis Kelce took part in a Netflix livestream where the interviewer asked them to open football-shaped treats. “I want you to pick her up. They’re a little heavy, but you can open them,” she said.

Mahomes, 29, and Kelce, 35, opened the pigskin-shaped items to reveal red velvet cakes. While Kelce cheered, “Oh yeah! Look at this. “A little bit of red velvet,” before taking a hearty bite, Mahomes hesitated, holding the pieces awkwardly in his hand.

When asked why he didn’t get involved, Mahomes explained: “I’m watching my weight for the playoffs.”

Kelce quickly stepped in to smooth things over and said they would take the cake to the dressing room to be photographed.

“Coach Reid is ready for it. I’ll take it to him,” Mahomes added, referring to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.

Although Mahomes skipped dessert, he didn’t turn down Netflix entirely. He happily accepted a red-and-white NFL coat decorated with candy canes and rocked the Santa-inspired puffer jacket with Kelce as they returned to the locker room.

Kelce embraced the holiday spirit and came to the game wearing a red Santa hat. His girlfriend, pop star Taylor Swift, was notably absent from the Christmas Day matchup. Despite her absence, Swift, 35, showed her support by liking an Instagram post celebrating Kelce’s record-breaking achievement of surpassing the Kansas City Chiefs’ franchise record for most touchdowns.

Swift was frequently present at Chiefs games throughout the season. Notably, she attended the game against the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium on December 21, which marked her first appearance since the conclusion of the US leg of her Eras Tour.

Meanwhile, Brittany Mahomes, wife of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, spent Christmas Day at home in Kansas City with their children Sterling, 3, and Bronze, 2. Pregnant with her third child, Brittany shared moments from her day on her Instagram Stories, including baking and watching the Chiefs play the Steelers. She posted photos of Sterling mixing ingredients and the family in matching pajamas, expressing her excitement for the holiday festivities.

Brittany is known for frequently participating in games with her children. However, due to her advanced pregnancy, she decided to enjoy the Christmas game from the comfort of her home. In a recent interview with Netflix, Patrick revealed that Brittany is due to give birth “any day now,” adding to the family’s excitement for the holidays.
