What a fumble.

Patrick Mahomes explained why he awkwardly turned down Netflix’s football-shaped cake in his postgame interview after leading the Kansas City Chiefs to victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.

The quarterback and teammate Travis Kelce were speaking to an interviewer on Netflix’s live stream of the marquee duel as she urged the NFL players to open a football each.

“I want you to pick her up. They are a little heavy, but you can open them,” said the journalist.

Mahomes, 29, and the tight end, 35, both reached for the special pigskins and opened them, only to find that they were actually red velvet cakes decorated to look like footballs.

“Oh yeah! Look at that. “A little red velvet,” Kelce cheered before taking a big bite out of the baked good.

Mahomes, however, chose not to try the dessert and awkwardly held the pieces in his hand.

“I’m watching my weight for the playoffs,” he shared.

Kelce quickly jumped in to cover for his buddy, saying they would take the cake to the dressing room and pose for a few photos with the treat.

“Coach Reid is ready for it. I’ll take it to him,” Mahomes said of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.

Mahomes didn’t completely snub the streaming service during the encounter, however, as he happily accepted a red and white smock decorated with the NFL logo and candy canes.

Both Mahomes and Kelce rocked Santa-inspired puffers and returned to their locker rooms still in their Christmas gear.

Kelce was clearly feeling the Christmas spirit as he arrived at the game earlier in the day wearing a red Santa hat.

His girlfriend Taylor Swift was apparently not in attendance, although she attended his Christmas Day showdown with her family last year.

The pop star, also 35, still showed some love for the athlete when she “liked” an Instagram post of Kelce breaking his team’s record for most touchdowns on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Mahomes’ pregnant wife, Brittany Mahomes, watched the game from their home in Kansas City, Missouri, with their two children, Sterling, 3, and Bronze, 2.

Patrick revealed in a Netflix interview this week that Brittany, also 29, is due “any day now.”
