Patriots OC Alex Van Pelt shares his feelings on Jerod Mayo’s comments

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt was asked about coach Jerod Mayo’s comments following the Week 15 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Mayo clarified his comments about the offensive coordinator earlier this week. The comments in question had to do with why the team stopped using quarterback Drake Maye as a runner in short-yardage situations.

When asked about Maye’s usage, Mayo replied, “You said it, I didn’t.” Many believed that the Patriots coach was pressuring Van Pelt. However, Van Pelt explained why he saw it differently.

“I didn’t see it. I had no idea. Then I was watching the tape early in the morning and he came in and said what we said,” Van Pelt said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN. “I stand by Jerod at all costs. We have a great relationship. We are very communicative. I didn’t mind that at all. I think it was taken out of context like he said. And we have a great relationship.”

The Patriots have three games left to make a strong impression. One has to wonder if upcoming gigs could potentially impact some of the coaching jobs.

Could Van Pelt or perhaps even Mayo be on the hot seat if the team continues to spiral out of control?
