Paul Bissonnette speaks out after attack on restaurant: “I took something, gave more”

Paul Bissonnette spoke out for the first time about the altercation he was involved in that led to the arrest of six people at a restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The popular Barstool podcaster and former NHL player posted a nearly three-and-a-half-minute video detailing what happened Sunday night at Houston’s in Scottsdale, a restaurant where Bissonnette said he dines regularly.

The former Coyotes agitator said he intervened after he saw a group of “drunk golfers” making life difficult for restaurant staff and at one point one of the men got in the manager’s face and began physically attacking.

“You could tell he was a little shocked, surprised and stunned,” Bissonnette remembers. “It is a family restaurant. I don’t think there was anyone there who could possibly help him. I walked over and simply grabbed the arm of the man lying on top of him and said, “Sir, if you continue to harass and assault the staff, we will be in trouble.”

“And then they just started ranting, so it escalated extremely quickly.”

Authorities told Fox 10 in Phoenix that six people were arrested as a result of the scuffle, but Bissonnette said in his video that seven people were involved and that he fought “throughout the restaurant all the way to the parking lot over to CVS.”

As described by Bissonnette, who according to hockeyfights.com has been involved in 69 fights in his hockey career, the fight got heated at times.

“Got shot down a few times,” he said. “I got booted from CVS a few times. Luckily I didn’t pass out. Went to the hospital, so everyone reads that. Only bad guys. Way too drunk and I don’t know what else they had in their bodies.

“I’m very, very angry with these guys and I want their names out and for them to pay the piper.”

Police have not released the names of the six people arrested on charges of assault and disorderly conduct.

According to Fox 10, five of the men are facing misdemeanor charges and the sixth person is facing a felony.

The altercation occurred around 7:30 p.m. local time, the outlet reported.

Bissonnette insisted that “everything is fine” and thanked the restaurant staff and helpful officials.

“Unacceptable behavior in a family restaurant just because they couldn’t get another cocktail and didn’t want to hear ‘no’ for an answer,” he said. “At that point, with the guy overpowering the manager, I just thought I had to go over. Took some, given more.”

Bissonnette played for the Coyotes from 2009 to 2014 and went on to a successful broadcasting career after his playing career ended.

Bissonnette is co-host of the popular podcast “Spittin Chiclets” for Barstool Sports and an analyst for TNT’s national NHL coverage.
