Paul Danan: Former Hollyoaks and Celebrity Big Brother star dies aged 46

At the height of his fame, Danan was a fixture in the tabloids and was pictured at various celebrity parties and events.

His name was used for Dananagram, a parody Instagram account that spoofs celebrities of the 90s and 2000s, and he later told BBC Radio 5 Live that he had teamed up with the people behind it.

The account posts retro photos of celebrities – supposedly from Danan’s old camera – and has more than 85,000 followers.

In 2020, he started acting courses in Bristol, his adopted home, for adults with mental health or addiction problems or who have suffered trauma or been in prison.

“It was great and honestly I changed people’s lives,” Danan said.

Last year, the actor opened up about his own health issues after he ended up in intensive care with pneumonia.

He told The Sun on Sunday that hospital staff told him to stop smoking in any form. After giving up cigarettes for the past few years, Danan said he became “obsessed” with disposable vapes.

He has also discussed previous problems with drugs, including addiction to cocaine and codeine, which he used to “self-soothe” after losing acting roles in the US in his 20s.

He also said he had spent over £1million on rehab over the years and once overdosed on heroin.
