Saturday Night Live innkeeper and Gladiator II Star Paul Mescal has reimagined his role in this historical drama as a gladiator who sings about how misunderstood he is.

In the promo, the film’s director, Ridley Scott, is quoted as saying, “I wasn’t told anything about this.” This includes the Roman Emperor (Mikey Day) performing a rap written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

“I don’t mean to be a hater, but I don’t like that gladiator,” he sang. “So say goodbye to that clown because my thumb is going down.”

Mescal finally took off from the Colosseum with a broom.

The promo also included a song composed for the “Beautiful Wife Back Home” (Jane Wickline), who stands on the edge of her farm with her young son and has high hopes after seeing army men approaching her house with torches approach.
