PDS Tornado Watch Returns to Our West: The Alabama Weather Blog

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued Tornado Warning No. 720. This advisory is in effect until 9:00 PM CST tonight for portions of southeast Arkansas, central and southwest Louisiana, southwest Mississippi, southeast Texas, and nearby coastal waters. This is a particularly dangerous situation, folks – one that we do not take lightly.”

The main threats in this surveillance area include:

Numerous tornadoes, some likely strong and long-lasting.
Widespread damaging winds with gusts reaching 80 miles per hour.
Isolated large hail, with isolated hailstones up to 5 cm in diameter possible.

The situation:
Severe thunderstorms, including supercells, are rapidly increasing across East Texas and West Louisiana this afternoon. These storms are expected to move northeast during the evening hours. Conditions in the atmosphere are becoming increasingly favorable for tornadoes and there is a possibility of strong, long-track tornadoes. Widespread damaging winds will also be a major problem as this system evolves.
