Penguins start Tristan Jarry in net against Colorado; Philip Tomasino is a game-changing decision

The Pittsburgh Penguins will turn to Tristan Jarry in net on Tuesday for a visit from the Colorado Avalanche, coach Mike Sullivan announced after his club’s morning skate in Cranberry.

Jarry is on a four-game winning streak, the longest consecutive win streak he has ever managed dating back to November 2023.

Most recently, Jarry stopped 25 of 27 shots in Saturday’s win over the Maple Leafs.

In this game, as well as his previous three games against the Canucks, Bruins and Flames, Jarry posted a combined save percentage of .914 and a 2.75 goals-against average.

Jarry is 5-3-1 with a 3.68 GAA and .888 save percentage this season.

As far as injury risks go, forward Philip Tomasino is a game-time decision, according to Sullivan.

Tomasino, who left with an injury in the third period of last Thursday’s loss to the New York Rangers, missed the Penguins’ win over Toronto on Saturday before returning to practice on Monday without contact.

The 23-year-old started immediately after moving from the Nashville Predators at the end of November and contributed three goals and one assist in his first five games in the Penguins jersey.

Tomasino took part in the morning skate on Tuesday and then spoke briefly with members of the media.

“It felt pretty good today, so we’ll see what happens here,” Tomasino said.

The full list of morning skate attendees was as follows:

Forward: Tomasino, Blake Lizotte, Kevin Hayes, Cody Glass, Matt Nieto, Evgeni Malkin, Jesse Puljujarvi

defender: Owen Pickering, Ryan Shea

goalkeeper: Alex Nedeljkovic

• Shea and Nieto stayed on the ice long after morning skates for extra work, which is usually a sign that they’re a healthy scratch on game nights.

• Scott Wedgewood is expected to start for Colorado. In eight games this season, Wedgewood has a 3-3-1 record, a 2.82 GAA, a .906 save percentage and one shutout. Over the course of his career, Wedgewood has appeared in six games against the Penguins and has a 2-2-0 record, a 2.74 GAA, a .927 save percentage and one shutout.

• Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen has played 599 games in his career.
